Orthodontic surgery enables the adult patient to correct facial imperfections, particularly the relationship between the upper and lower jaw, in adult patients.

Defining it in a very generic manner, orthodontic surgery allows the correction, even in adult patients, of excessive or deficits of the jaw compared to the rest of the face, asymmetries and vertical problems.

Surgical treatment is normally preceded by an orthodontic treatment needed to coordinate the dental structures in the position desired after surgery. After surgery, a second period of orthodontic treatment normally follows, which usually does not last very long, for correction of details and occlusal stabilization.
